Marquesas Charter Fishing

A fishing charter to the Marquesas is a great way to experience some of the best fishing in the world. The Marquesas are a circular chain of islands located 26 miles west of Key West, Florida. They offer a diverse fishery with flats, inshore, nearshore, wrecks and reef fishing opportunities. You can catch a variety of fish species such as permit, tarpon, bonefish, snapper, grouper, cobia, barracuda, jacks and more.

Depending on your preferences and budget, you can choose from different types of fishing charters to the Marquesas. Some options are:

  • Flats fishing: This is a technical and rewarding style of fishing that requires casting accuracy and stealth. You can use either spin or fly fishing gear to target trophy fish like permit, bonefish and tarpon on the shallow flats around the islands. You can fish the flats with either a bay boat or a traditional flats boat.
  • Inshore fishing: This is a fun and relaxing way of fishing that involves exploring the inside waters of the Marquesas called Mooney Harbor. Here you can find tarpon, sharks, barracudas, jacks and permit swimming freely. You can use either a bay boat or a flats boat with a trolling motor or a pole to get close to the fish.
  • Nearshore fishing: This is an exciting and fast-paced way of fishing that involves casting artificial lures or flies to fish that are feeding near the shorelines of the islands. You can see the fish chase and strike your lure in the clear water. You can catch fish like barracuda, jacks, cobia and more with this method. You need a bay boat for this type of fishing.
  • Wreck fishing: This is an adventurous and productive way of fishing that involves visiting some of the shallow water wrecks that are scattered around the Marquesas. These wrecks attract a lot of fish that are looking for shelter and food. You can use topwater plugs or flies to catch large barracuda, jacks and cobia on these wrecks. You need a bay boat for this type of fishing.
  • Reef fishing: This is a classic and enjoyable way of fishing that involves anchoring near a reef and dropping baits or jigs to the bottom. You can catch a variety of reef fish such as snapper, grouper, triggerfish and more with this method. You need a larger boat for this type of fishing.

Most if not all of our fishing will be reef or wreck fishing. Our overnight Marquesas Key trips last for 3 or 4 days and include trolling for offshore fish like mahi-mahi, sailfish, king mackerel and wahoo along the way. These trips use the Marquesas or Fort Jefferson at the Dry Tortugas as safe harbor. The charter includes everything you need for fishing such as rods*, reels*, lures, flies, bait, ice and water. You just need to bring your own food, drinks, sunscreen and camera.

A fishing charter to the Marquesas is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you will never forget. It is a great way to enjoy nature, have fun and catch some amazing fish.
